-Graphs are more effective than numbers for people on shifts.  Use a few graphs that summarize critical information about the current status of the experiment and data acquisition system,
-Use as few windows as possible.  Having too many different little windows opened clutters the computer desktop and makes it difficult to find stuff.
-The DAQ must be accessible locally (in the experimental area) and remotely.
-Every experiment must have a user account. It is not good when everybody shares the same account because then you do not know who is running the active processes.
